Take your shot!

December 13, 2020 Sandra Dawes

Every time I’ve done something where I thought the chances of success are pretty slim, I’ve always been presently surprised (lottery tickets aside). 😉 It’s funny how the mind can convince you not to try something or take a risk when the worst that could happen is that you’re told no. The reality is that no just leaves you where you are right now, except you now know that one option is off the table.

I remember when I was working on a program on kids and I decided it would be great to interview Leonore Skenazy. At the time she was the host of a television program called Bubble Wrap Kids. I went on her website, found her email address, and sent her an email asking if I could interview her for a program I was developed. A few days later, I received a reply stating that she would do the interview and we booked a time and made it happen. It was a great conversation and I learned a lot!

For that same program, I choose Dr. Joe Rubino as another person I wanted to interview. I even asked him to be a Joint Venture partner and he agreed to both! This response happened the same day I sent the email! Needless to say, I was pretty pleased with myself. It’s time like that you start to wonder what else is possible! 🙂

This year, Leonie Dawson sent an email to her list saying that she was opening up her calendar to be on webinars, podcasts, etc. to people on her mailing list. I thought that she would be inundated with requests, but decided to shoot my shot, got a reply, and did a podcast interview with her that was one of the highlights of my year. You can listen to it here.

The next time you’re considering doing something and a voice pops up telling you not to do it, ask that voice why? What’s the worst that could happen? If it’s that you get a negative response, then you’re right where you are now. Why not try to do something that could take you even one step closer to achieving your goals? Hearing no doesn’t take you ten steps back, it simply takes an option off the table.

Getting negative responses isn’t a reason to quit doing what you’re doing. It just means that you have to look at alternate paths to getting you where you’re trying to go. The key is to keep an open mind and ask for help when you need it. If you’re thinking of taking your shot, stop hesitating, and just do it! I bet you’ll be happy you did. ♥
