So, I know when I typed the title of this post that readers who know me would wonder if I was talking about Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, but I’m not. On Friday, my husband and I met the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness. He actually came into Treasure Buds & Records to check it out. 😊
His team, including Mr. Holness, was visiting the parish we live in, St. Elizabeth, and the hotel where the shop is located hosted a dinner for them last night. Hubby was asked to DJ the music while the group was at the restaurant on Thursday, so we weren’t surprised to see him.
I was surprised he came into the shop and checked it out. We had a nice chat, and my husband, of course, asked if we could have a picture with him, which he kindly said yes to. Here’s one of the pictures:
Thankfully, our chat was pleasant, and we didn’t talk about politics at all. He asked how we were enjoying living in Jamaica, and we told him we were having a good time getting adjusted.
Politics in Jamaica seems different from that in Canada. Maybe it’s because where we’re living is such a small town, so everything seems magnified.
I’ve never seen people camp out to see the motorcade with the country’s leader before. If it happens in Canada, I haven’t witnessed it. 🤷🏽♀️
People seem to take their political affiliations quite seriously here. Given that I wasn’t in Canada for the last election, I don’t know how serious things got in the previous election. Still, if social media is any indication, it’s as bad as declaring for the Greens or the Blacks in House of the Dragon (sorry, I binged on three episodes of the second season on our flight to Toronto recently). 😉
While I recently picked up my voter ID for Jamaica, I’m still undecided about who I’d vote for in the next election. I need to do my homework and see which party I feel more aligned with when it comes to each platform.
There’s no date for the next election at the moment, but it’s expected to happen before the end of this year. I’d better get started on informing myself about the two political parties, or I’ll be left undecided on election day, which hasn’t happened in my voting history to date.
Based on what little I know about the two political parties, I think I know which party I’m more aligned with, but I want to make sure I’m making a well-informed decision. I won’t necessarily tell you which party I choose, but I promise to let you know once I’ve made a decision. 🩵
