The last year of my 40s

February 23, 2024 Sandra Dawes

I was looking for ideas for this week’s blog post and decided to see what I’ve written about my birthday in the past. I noticed a post where I said goodbye to my 30s and hello to my 40s. The birthday coming up next week is the last one I celebrate in my 40s, so next year’s birthday post will be a hello to my 50s and goodbye to my 40s.

In the article I wrote saying goodbye to my 30s, I was happy to be done with them. The 30s were my first decade without my father. In that post, I said that my thirties were about becoming self-aware, and I saw my 40s as when I would act.

My 40s were about action. I got married in my mid-forties, and that event alone caused me to act on things I procrastinated on. I closed my life coaching practice and started focusing on my writing as COVID hit, and I realized it was time to pivot.

My 40s also were the decade where I packed up and left the country I’d been living in for my entire life and started a new life in a new country with my husband.

A lot has happened in the last nine years, and I’m excited to see where my golden years take me. I aim to stay healthy, keep fit, and align my mind, body, and soul. My new home has everything I need to do just that.

If someone had told me 20 years ago that this would be my reality, I’d wonder what crazy book or movie they had read or watched that ignited such a wild imagination!

I never imagined I would have a career as a writer, and I definitely didn’t think I would live in a tropical country. Although, even as I typed that sentence, I reminded myself that Jamaica was on every vision board I’ve ever created, and it’s not like I haven’t seen the country yet, so there is that. I guess my subconscious knew I wanted to live here before I did!

I don’t know what I’ll do for my birthday this year, but I know it’ll be wonderful because of where I am and who I’m with. ❤️
