Finding inspiration

January 10, 2024 Sandra Dawes

It’s been a slow start to the year for me. I decided to switch the way I approach the year. Instead of “hitting the ground running,” I’ve decided to take action with intention, which takes more time because you need to think about why you make each move you make.

I’m watching videos with people I admire professionally to glean some wisdom. I love hearing the stories about stepping outside comfort zones. It makes me feel better that I’m not the only one who worries about taking those steps and hearing the wins gained when they find the courage to do it.

It’s also interesting to learn where they find their inspiration. It’s reassuring to hear that the sources of inspiration can be varied. In some of the interviews, it’s great to see them having fun describing their experiences and talking about how much they enjoy everything they do.

I think that watching videos about people I admire talking about where they find inspiration and what sparks flames in their hearts gives me confidence that I’m on the right path.

I’ve already started writing my book, and I’m grateful there are no time restrictions this time so that I can take my time with the story. When I wrote my first book, for some reason, I wanted it published and ready for Christmas. When the publisher told me they would need the first draft by the end of August, I committed to making it happen. I got copies of the book in my hands the first week of November, so the mission was achieved! 🥳🎉

This time is different. I don’t have a publisher yet, so there’s no deadline. I’ve been thinking I may submit chapters to literary contests to see how they do. Why not? I’m already writing the content, so why not submit chapter drafts and see what happens? 🤔

The environment we’re living in now has permitted me to slow things down and not rush things. If there’s anything I know about myself, I don’t do well when I’m forced to move at a pace faster than my usual. I love that I can control my pace of life here more than before.

Slowing things down has allowed me to gain clarity on my second book and given me the time to get my work done well before it needs to be completed. After finishing this post, I will return to working on my book. Who knows, I might find some contests to enter, too! 😉
