In December I decided to do something I haven’t done since I started Embrace Your Destiny in 2009 – take a 3-week break from doing anything work related. For the sake of transparency, I was getting married on January 2nd, so it’s not like I didn’t have other things to focus my time on energy on. 😉 There was a time, however, where even the fact I was getting married wouldn’t have been a reasonable excuse for not being present, in some way in my business.
Part of me was wary of taking such a long break. I know from taking a few days off from Social Media that your reach can take a beating from not being consistent, but I decided to do it anyway. Like I said, it wasn’t like I didn’t have other things going on, and I felt like I needed to take a break. It was also something that my then-fiance, now husband was going to struggle with as well, since the location of our wedding is where he does a lot of his business.
We both managed to not do actively do anything business related while we were gone for 15 days, but that doesn’t mean that business didn’t happen. I received emails inviting me to participate in opportunities that will be a great start to the new year. He managed to meet someone who will open up the door to future opportunities in his business. Things happened without us trying to make them happen and who really cares if I’m not active on social media anyway?
That’s my first lesson for the year and the decade. It’s okay to take a break. If you’ve been planting seeds and doing the work, you will be able to harvest the fruits of your labour, you just don’t know when those fruits will come.
This isn’t to say that I’m going to stay on cruise control and see what else comes. I’m rested and ready to face 2020 with some mental clarity and focus. It’s all about being productive, not busy and staying focused on the big picture. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!
