A couple of weeks ago I had a session with Ruby McGuire. She’s a Visibility Coach. I was fortunate enough to win the session with her after she did a bundle on Visibility with the Female Entrepreneurs Association. I was excited for the session and prepared for an ass-kicking for not doing the things I need to do to get more visibility for myself and in turn, my business.
I confess that the session wasn’t what I expected it to be. Like I said, I was expecting to get a good talking to about why I wasn’t doing the things I knew I should be doing. What I got was even better because it got me to quiet the mental chatter (that seems non-stop at times) and tap into my consciousness so I could get down to the root of the problem.
Yes, I was making excuses for not doing more video. The question that the session allowed me to uncover was the real reason why I was making every excuse under the sun for why I couldn’t do what I knew I needed to do to get the results I want. It had nothing to do with time, or the right equipment. It went much deeper than that.
I won’t bore you with all the gory details 😉 All of this is to say that this session reminded me that we know what’s going on. We know why we aren’t doing the things we want to do. It can be easy to find surface rationale for not doing what needs to get done, but it normally goes a lot deeper. They often come from beliefs that we’ve been holding on to that don’t serve us.
Once we realize the real reason why we aren’t taking the actions needed to bring us closer to the achievement of our goals, we have to decide what we’re going to do about it. It’s important to realize that those beliefs we’ve been holding on to that hold us back aren’t based in fact. We’ve used past experiences as proof that our excuses are justified. We need to remind ourselves that our past good, bad or otherwise doesn’t define us. We can always do something different, something better.
We know the answers. We just need to find a way to tap into them. Sometimes it’s a coach or mentor that helps you get there, other times it’s simply quieting the mind and asking for guidance. How you tap into the answers isn’t as important as connecting with the answers. Continuing to make excuses isn’t going to get you any closer to achieving your goals. It’s just going to cause frustration and disappointment.
If we want different results, we have to do things differently. Are you ready look within for the answers to make that change? ♥
