Getting to the finish line

July 28, 2026 Sandra Dawes

I’ve finished the first draft of my book, and now the editing has started. Aside from the editing, I have a few more bases to cover before I submit the final draft. I’m procrastinating, and I’m not sure why.

Okay, that’s not totally true. I ran into the same issue with my first book. After writing the first 11 chapters, I started getting too caught up in my head about whether anyone would find value in what I’ve written. I had to remind myself that even if one person got something from it, it was worth the effort.

I find myself looking for justifiable distractions from doing the work the book needs me to do. While my chores may get done, there’s still other work waiting for me to give it the attention it needs.

My deadline to get the book completed is August 31, 2026. It’s the closing date for the Kindle Storyteller 2026 contest, so I’ve got over a month to get everything done and submitted.

After writing this post, I think I’m going to revisit the current draft by listening to it to see if I catch any grammar mistakes or find more content to add.

It’s been over ten years since I’ve shared a personal story as a book; maybe it’s just stage fright.
