On Thursday, we had to go to the immigration office for an interview. We left early to give us enough time, and we arrived 30 minutes before the appointment.
It was a three-part interview: together, by myself, and my husband by himself. We had finished the joint interview and my individual interview. My husband was in the middle of his interview when he came out to tell me that the gate in our fence had fallen and our dogs were free in the yard.
Thankfully, we have cameras at home, and I saw Shearni was on the porch while Sheara was checking the damage. Hubby called one of our neighbours, who told him he was an hour away from home. He tried another neighbour who was at home and agreed to go over and secure the dogs to their homes until we got home and secured the gate. Our other neighbour came by when he was back in the area and fed the dogs while we were still on our way.
While we panicked when we saw the gate down, we relaxed when we saw the dogs remained there and safe. When we got home, we praised the dogs for not running away, and my husband got to work on fixing the gate right after.
The strong winds haven’t relented yet. On the weekend, the winds were strong enough that the dogs thought it was a sign for them to come inside to stay safe! The good news is that the repair to the gate is holding and it shouldn’t come down again unless there’s really extreme weather.
It’s nice to know that we can count on our neighbours if needed, and that the dogs feel safe enough not to run away from home!
