Full-Circle Moments

Back in 2000, I started my MBA. Since my undergraduate degree is a major in political science with a minor in peace studies, finance would not be my focus.

I ended up specializing in entrepreneurship and business sustainability. I thought I would use the entrepreneurship specialization to help people write business plans, not become an entrepreneur myself, but here we are. 😉

I chose the business sustainability specialization because it spoke to my touchy-feely side. We looked at the triple bottom line and how businesses need to consider more than just their financial bottom line; they also need to consider social and environmental impacts.

I remember doing a project on internet connectivity and looking at satellites for rural communities. Twenty-five years ago, the technology hadn’t developed to the point it is today, but I can say I’m currently benefiting from Starlink satellites to provide me with internet access.

After dealing with two back-to-back category five hurricanes, I’m well aware of the realities of global warming. I mentioned in a previous post the irony that the oil and gas industry is one of the major contributors to global warming. Yet they’re the ones who benefit when the power goes out, with lineups at gas stations to get fuel for generators.

We’d been considering getting solar for our home, and we’ve now made the move. JPS says it doesn’t project restoring power to the entire country until May 2026. To wait from the end of October until May 2026 is more camp than I’m willing to bear.

We’re fortunate to have access to the funds needed to invest in solar, and we know we’ll recoup that investment by saving on our electricity bill.

It makes me feel good to know that we’re reducing our carbon footprint, and we’re no longer dependent on JPS. 🩵
