I’ve started book #3!

November 23, 2025 Sandra Dawes

While I was getting ready to start writing my next book, experiencing Hurricane Melissa just over a year after Hurricane Beryl shifted my thoughts on what my third book should be about.

Suppose it’s not evident from the introduction. In that case, my next book has a working title of A Tale of Two Hurricanes: Experiencing Beryl & Melissa. I like the title because it’s a riff on A Tale of Two Cities. I have a draft outline of the topics I want to cover, but I’m sure that will change as I write.

I’ll be looking at the similarities and differences among each hurricane, including preparations before, experiences during, and recovery afterwards. While I would love to say I’ll have a draft of the book complete before the end of the year, I don’t think that’s possible, since the storm recovery will still be ongoing.

I say that because I’ve heard it may take six months for electricity to be restored nationwide. While it would be nice to have power for the holidays, it may not be possible for many of us. 😔

Thankfully, we have a generator and Starlink, so I can continue writing and doing research when necessary. 🙏🏽

I haven’t abandoned the idea of the book I was going to write before the storm happened. I’d actually started working on it (which I think I shared on my blog maybe a month or two ago). I believe our recent experiences have given me additional issues to cover.

I’m grateful to have the inspiration to write, despite the less-than-perfect conditions. I’m glad I find comfort at my laptop, writing my ideas with the hope of sharing them with others.

Although I haven’t given myself a deadline to complete a draft of the book, I am committing to working on it daily. Who knows what I can get done in the less than forty days left in 2025? 🩵
