I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it in any of my previous blogs, but I’m certain I’ve expressed it in social conversations – self-awareness is a beautiful thing.
I’ve been listening to the audio of Elizabeth Gilbert’s latest book, All the Way to the River, and hearing her tell her story about losing her wife, as well as her confessions of the emotions she experienced throughout her time with Rayya.
I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to share the good, the bad, and the ugly thoughts, feelings, and emotions she experienced throughout the journey of their relationship. I’m maybe halfway through the book, and each chapter continues to surprise me (as if the author were a dear friend of mine).
It’s amusing how when someone shares a great deal of their personal life, you think you know them. I’ve read Eat, Pray, Love and Committed. I thbelievehat one of the things I appreciate about her writing is that she takes accountability for her part in the ups and downs of their relationship.
Reading and listening to Elizabeth Gilbert’s writing inspires me. I want to write books that connect to readers the way I feel connected to her books.
Although the book I’m working on now differs from the first two, where I wrote about things I knew intimately (my dad, nd my dog), I’m excited to stretch this writing muscle. I know that the books I write after this time I’ll draw on some of my personal experiences.
Self-awareness is the most freeing thing. Once you are self-aware, you can identify your b.s and take responsibility for everything that you experience, and that gift is a priceless one. 🩵
