I never thought I’d be a shop owner, but here I am. There are busy spurts, but there are also quiet times, which I don’t mind at all.
I’m writing this post in one of my quiet times. Spotify is playing songs from my “Liked Songs” list, so I don’t have to skip any of them. 😉
While living in Canada, my condo was once my fortress of solitude. It was where I could do whatever I wanted, including nothing.
When we first moved, I wondered where I would recreate my fortress. In the beginning, I worked from home, so there would be days when I didn’t leave the house or interact with anyone. As an introvert, I didn’t see anything wrong with it initially, but then I realized I was isolating myself.
Since we were living in a new country, meeting new people was a regular thing, and it’s harder to establish relationships sight unseen, especially in a small town.
The shop allows me to meet new people and interact with the staff at the hotel where I’m located. I get to meet people from all over the world and have some thought-provoking conversations. Conversely, when the shop is quiet, I have time to read and work on my writing.
Like Superman’s fortress of solitude, I use this space to connect with my passion for writing, recharging, recalibrating, and I occasionally meet someone who graces me with some thoughtful conversation. 🙏🏽
I’m writing this post earlier than usual because we’re headed on a two-day break on Friday. One of my closest friends from Canada is celebrating her 50th birthday on the island. I’m excited to see and spend time with her before returning to Canada in June.
I’m not sure if needing a space of your own to do whatever you want stems from growing up an only child, but I know that I sometimes need a space I can enjoy without distractions, and I’m glad I’ve found one with a fantastic view. 🩵
