Feeling aligned

August 11, 2023 Sandra Dawes

It’s been almost three months since I joined the hubby in the country where we’ve chosen to spend the next chapters of our lives. June was the month I was trying to get my footing and figure out my daily routine in a new home. It took almost an entire month, but in July, I was able to meet my goals and get work done.

Last week I wrote about the challenge of getting started on a short story I wanted to write and enter into a contest. I don’t consider myself a fiction writer, and I was feeling a little intimidated, to say the least.

After writing that blog and scheduling last week’s email, I decided there was no time like now to get started on the story, and I wrote the first draft. This isn’t the first time I’ve written a blog that serves as a reminder for me to do something I’ve been procrastinating on.

In addition to feeling like the words are flowing easier here, I feel less stressed, more relaxed, and content. If I had any doubts about moving, they no longer exist. I’m not saying that it’s been smooth sailing; it hasn’t been.

There have been car accidents, ceiling leaks, and a lot of waiting for things outside our control. The difference is that none of this has shaken us up or made us wonder if we made the right choice.

Even the insect bites and power outages haven’t been unbearable. The inconvenience doesn’t cancel out what we’ve grown to love about our new home.

I’m managing my time better, eating better, enjoying the outdoors and fresh air every day, and going to the beach whenever we feel like it and the weather permits. Earlier this week, I saw a colleague posting about her experience relocating to Costa Rica.

She was reflecting on the fact it’s been two years since she made the move, and she doesn’t regret a thing. Choosing to move to another country can be a big decision. If you let it, fear can talk you out of making a move.

If you decide to feel the fear and do it anyway, as Susan Jeffers’s book says, you may be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. If you’re feeling the pull to relocate, your spirit may be asking for what you need to be in alignment. ❤️
