How committed are you to resolving your issues?

May 21, 2023 Sandra Dawes

In one of the articles I wrote a couple of months ago, I found an app to help with writer’s block. One of the apps I stumbled upon is BrainSparker. Since I don’t have an iPhone, I receive daily email prompts that can “spark” an idea to write about.

One of the prompts I received this week was, “How committed are you to resolving this?”. I’m supposed to consider this question in the context of my creative block. The block I’ve been facing concerns the fiction book I’ve been working on.

Fiction writing is much more challenging than writing a book about my personal experiences, and I have to create characters, their backstory, and a plotline. I haven’t worked on the book in months because it all looks pretty daunting.

The prompt asking me, “How committed are you to resolving this?” forced me to challenge myself. How badly do I want to write a work of fiction? If I’m committed to writing this book, I need to resolve my issues about taking a massive step outside my comfort zone.

Commitment is a vital component of making our goals a reality. If we’re not committed to realizing our dreams, it can be easy to give up when things get challenging. I’m reminded that persistence is another ingredient in realizing my goals.

To answer the question, “How committed are you to resolving this?” I will say I’m very committed. Knowing that I’ve acknowledged my commitment, I need to devise a plan to make it happen. I know I must put aside some time to finish the work.

Actions speak louder than words, and instead of simply talking about writing a book of fiction, I need to figure out how to make it happen. I’ve decided to put it out there to hold myself accountable. I’m going to see if I can join a writer’s group to help me stay focused and gain support from other writers.

If you have any issues, ask yourself, “How committed are you to resolving this?” ❤️
