Dealing with stress

May 14, 2023 Sandra Dawes

The latest article I’ve been working on is about microstress. It was a suggestion by an editor, and I didn’t even know microstress was a thing! After doing some research, it makes sense.

Microstress is life’s everyday aggravations that we tell ourselves aren’t a big deal, so we don’t need to deal with them. The problem with microstress is that it can accumulate if we don’t deal with them, resulting in significant stress.

Since my writing has to have a technological slant, I’ve been looking at apps that can help identify stress causes, track how stress affects you, and tools to help you neutralize your stress. I’ve been playing around with some of the apps, and one of them indicated that my biometrics say I’m under stress.

It makes me think that we’ve become so accustomed to living life with stress of some sort that it’s easy for it to go unnoticed. After tracking my vitals and being told I was stressed, I realized I had to dedicate more time to self-care.

It’s easy in life’s busyness to tell yourself that there’s no time for the things that can reduce your stress. Whether it’s working out, meditating, or spending time doing something your love, the reality is that for our well-being, we can’t afford not to make time to take steps to eliminate our stress.
