Sometimes we need a reminder

July 17, 2022 Sandra Dawes

While I’ve been reading a lot because of the research I do for the articles I’m assigned with writing, I haven’t been doing any recreational reading. After watching a movie where the character (who wanted to be a writer) was told the best way to become a writer was to read lots of books, and then reading an article that said relatively the same thing, I decided it was a sign it was time to pick up a book and start reading.

I didn’t actually pick up a book; I bought a book on Kindle. I decided to buy The Science of Getting Rich because I love a good mindset book, and it has been a while since I’ve read that kind of book. I’m almost three-quarters through it now, and it’s been serving as a great reminder about concepts and ideas I’m already familiar with.

The book has also introduced new concepts to me and explained others in a way I’ve never experienced before. There are some concepts I was aware of intuitively that I now have words to describe, thanks to reading the book.

Reading the book The Science of Getting Rich provides us with caveats to look out for. The book reminds us that the only thing we always have control over is our thoughts, and we need to be mindful of the concepts and ideas that we give our focus to. If you’ve read many New Age books, then you’re probably familiar with the idea that what we focus on expands. This is why we must be mindful of what we spend our time thinking about.

We can’t end poverty, hunger, or illness by focusing all our time on the problem, and we need to shift our thinking and focus on solutions. The Science of Getting Rich has reminded me that the key to accomplishing our goals is consistently combining faith, focus, and action.

I’m excited to be reading daily again, and after I finish this book, I’m going to read a fiction book. I plan to alternate between fiction and non-fiction to keep things interesting. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book strictly for entertainment, and I’m looking forward to some frivolous reading! 😉
