I like to plan ahead. My husband is more of the spontaneous type. As you can imagine, it makes for some dialogue that’s worthy of a comedy show sometimes. I’ve been trying to recruit him to team #planahead by showing him some of the benefits of planning ahead.
Of course, he loves to point out times when things happen that weren’t in the plan, like me missing a step and falling and fracturing my ankle while traveling abroad. I then point out that that’s what travel insurance is for. 1-0 for team #planahead. ?
For me, planning ahead means there’s no anxiety because you forgot to print out one of the many forms you need to travel these days. It also means making sure I have all my necessities from home, so I don’t have to scour the country looking for my favourite brand of something.
Planning ahead means that even when things don’t go according to plan, you’re not completely frazzled by the experience. You can feel confident, event when challenges arise, because you’ve got all your other bases covered. You can manage a fire with ease when you have easy access to a fire extinguisher, right?
This isn’t to say that there’s no room for spontaneity. I admit that I’ve enjoyed some of our spontaneous moments. I think that it’s about balance. It’s about realizing that there are times where spontaneity can be fun and exciting, and other times where not planning ahead can lead to frustration.
I realize that I can’t plan for everything, and sometimes that’s not only okay, but the more enjoyable option. I don’t think I’ll be letting go of my need to plan. If I can plan for it, I’m going to do my best. Now, I just need to accept that not everything is plannable and enjoy the ride.?❤️
