We hear a lot about gratitude and how it’s essential to be grateful for what you have. When I first started expressing gratitude, I struggled with the idea that expressing gratitude would attract more things into my life that I could be grateful for. Growing up, My parents often told me to be satisfied with what I have when I asked for more of something. Whether that was a new toy or an extra helping of dessert, the notion of being satisfied with what I had was ingrained in me, but I still struggled with it.
How can you tell people to be satisfied with what they already have, and in another breath, praise someone that strives for more as being ambitious? Is it okay to be grateful for what we have and still want more?
I think that it is possible to be grateful for what we have and still want more. There’s nothing wrong with wanting more, and suppressing the desire for more can leave us feeling unhappy. We shouldn’t settle for what we currently have because we think we have enough, and wanting more can lead to disappointment when you don’t get it.
When we settle and try to hold back the desires and dreams for more, we leave ourselves unfulfilled. If you’re not living the life you want now, there is a way to change that. It’s not going to happen overnight, and it probably won’t be easy, but the chances are good that what you want is possible.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting things that your family has never experienced. There’s a first time for everything, and maybe your accomplishments will show others that it is possible to achieve things that other people have. You don’t need to be from a particular family or have a birthright to something to achieve greatness.
The only thing you need to do what no one has ever done is to believe that it’s possible. When you think that the impossible is possible, you will take action and make decisions that open you up to the opportunities that can help you make your dreams a reality.
If you want more, you have to decide that you deserve it, that you’re worthy and deserve the life you want. You don’t have to wait for a sign to go for it. The stars don’t have to be perfectly aligned before you start creating the life you want. You just have to be ready and willing to take action, be prepared to step outside your comfort zone, and not allow challenges or obstacles to detract you from making your dreams a reality.
