Consistency is key

May 30, 2021 Sandra Dawes

I was thinking about the goals that I have successfully achieved and those that didn’t work out to see if there was a pattern. Of course, there was a pattern; the question was, what was it? It didn’t take very long to figure out that I had successfully attained the goals that I was committed to and took daily action on.

Commitment and regular work to make it happen was just a part of what allowed me to accomplish my goals. I visualized achieving those goals regularly. For me, visualizing looks a lot like daydreaming. The key is that I daydream about the same things consistently. There’s a lot more intention and emotion in those daydreams beyond, “wouldn’t it be nice if…”

Regardless of what you’re working towards or your method for making those goals a reality, the important thing to remember is that persistent, consistent work pays off. This is why the motivation behind your goal has to be huge. There’s a reason why you hear so much about knowing your why. It’s because without a bigger enough “why,” it’s easy to lose interest or to give up when challenges appear.

You have to be passionate about your goals. There has to be a fire that keeps you going, even when you’re encountering obstacles in the pursuit of your dreams. Knowing what is possible once you achieve your goal is reason enough not to entertain quitting as an option.

I’m not saying that if you’re not working on your goals every day, it isn’t going to happen. There’s nothing wrong with taking a break and directing your attention to something else for a while. The critical thing to remember is to come back to your goal after a short break with new eyes, energized, and ready to do another stretch of work to realize your goal.

Consistency isn’t about working yourself to the ground. It’s about giving your goals regular time, energy, and effort so that you can continue to be motivated by the progress you’re making, however big or small it might be. If you regularly lose sight of your goals and continue to feel unmotivated and uninspired, then it’s time to review if this goal is still important to you.

Your goals are supposed to excite you. They’re supposed to wake you up in the mornings and fuel your energy throughout the day. If your goals aren’t doing this for you, you need to ask yourself why you chose this goal as something you wanted to achieve in the first place. If that reason is still important to you, other factors may hold you back from making those goals a reality.

Don’t allow fear and self-doubt to paralyze you from doing the work you need to do to make your goals a reality. No one’s going to make your goals happen for you. You have to put in the work if you want to see results. If you have a vision for your life, it’s showing you what’s possible. It’s up to you to show the universe that you really want that vision to become a reality.

Once you start taking consistent action and small steps outside your comfort zone, the universe will conspire with you to make your goals a reality. What are you waiting for? ♥
