Finding alignment

February 1, 2021 Sandra Dawes

It’s the start of a new month, and I feel like 2021 has started as one of the most calming years I’ve had in a long time. While many found the lockdown of 2020 frustrating, I was grateful for the time to reset. 2020 required that we think about the path we’re on. Are we happy with where we’re headed or is it time to change direction?

Pivot was probably the most over-used word for 2020. It’s because that’s what we were all challenged to do as what we knew as normal, changed in a significant way. I’ve taken the time at home to not only catch up on what Netflix has to offer but to also check-in with myself. At the end of 2019, I was grateful for the wedding getaway because I needed the break. I was feeling like I was just going through the motions in the work that I was doing, joy had left the building.

In 2020, I made many pivots before finding the direction that felt right to me. Not only did it feel right to me, but the universe sent me signs that I was headed in the right direction. It’s funny how the answer is often so clear that we think it can’t be that easy!

Many years ago, I remember saying that I would be a happy woman if I could get paid to write… and I left it at that. I didn’t look at how I could make it happen, I looked at it, for some reason as an impossible pipe dream. I started my coaching practice to help change people’s lives in an impactful way. I’m starting to realize that I can do that without a coaching session; I can do it with my writing.

The fire was ignited to write my first book after I wrote an article for a magazine. That article resulted in strangers reaching out to me on social media and on my website to thank me for sharing my story; it gave them hope. That kind of feedback made me wonder what I could do with a book if a 2-page article could have such an impact.

I’ve been told I’m a good storyteller. I like to write. I enjoy writing. I spent the month of January doing paid writing gigs. I didn’t solicit these jobs. They came to me after I gained clarity on the fact that writing was what I wanted to do. It makes me believe that for now, this is the right path for me. I’m excited to see where it leads!

It’s amazing the alignment you can achieve with some focus and without distraction. Having the time to quiet the mind, reflect, and focus has provided me with answers to questions I’ve been thinking about for a while. 2020 may have presented its fair share of challenges, but it also provided some gifts. I’m happy that achieving alignment was one I received. ♥
