Last week, I posted an article about accepting challenges. One of the things that I was inspired to do was to submit a piece of work to Chicken Soup of the Soul. I was excited to start writing, and as I started working on my submission, I started to feel like it needed more time. I also started to feel like submitted the short story I was writing would leave the reader with a lot of questions, so I’ve decided to keep that story for myself and make that the subject of my next book.
It’s funny. I wrote my first book back in 2013 and since then I’ve been asked when I plan to write my next book. For the longest time I haven’t had an answer. I didn’t know what story I wanted to share next. I have a friend who assures me I have plenty of content, I just need to pick a story and write it.
So I guess this post should be titled Challenge Accepted part 2. 😉 I’m a bit nervous about working on this next book because it’s another personal story, but I honestly don’t know if I can write anything else. Even if I was going to write a non-fiction book, it would have elements of some parts of my life in it. I would think that’s true for most people that create things. They can’t help but include a part of their own life experience in the final product.
I’m excited to be doing more writing. It’s one of the things that I learned last year – I enjoy writing. I’ve been doing some freelance work and I enjoy writing pieces on topics I wouldn’t have chosen for myself. I’m learning new things along the way and working with people all over the world!
Sometimes we start something with one goal in mind and it evolves in a way that we didn’t expect. I started writing this piece as a short story for a compilation, and now it’s going to be a full-fledged book! The goal of sharing my story will still be fulfilled, just in a different way.
There’s nothing wrong with altering the path when it comes to your goals. Sometimes you’re forced to change direction because of a roadblock you encounter. Other times, it’s your intuition that kicks in and guides you on a different path. The main thing is that whatever path you are on, it’s still going to get you to your final destination.
