Change tends to provoke extreme reactions. People either hate it or they love it and there are always those who don’t seem to mind one way or the other. What is it about change that causes resistance? Maybe it’s fear of the unknown, or the ripples of other changes that come with one change. Either way, necessary or not, change isn’t always welcomed.
Things have changed so drastically in such a short period of time. January 1, 2020 feels like a lifetime ago and people are starting to wonder when things will get “back to normal”. I don’t know if things will go back to normal. I don’t know if I want them to if I’m being totally honest. I’ve been wondering how I can keep some of the quiet beyond it being legally mandated!
But that’s a struggle with change too, isn’t it? I found something that feels good and I don’t want to go back to the noise of six months ago. The struggle is real regardless of whether you’re not enjoying this current situation and want to get out or if you’re okay with how things are going and don’t want a shift to happen. Change is going to happen whether we like it or not.
It all comes down to what you choose to focus on. You can resist change or you can choose to look at what’s within your control and work with that. There are always going to be things that are out of our control. There’s nothing we can do about that. Rather than resisting change, it’s about how to adapt to that change in a way that works for you.
Change often comes with a level of discomfort. There’s an adjustment period that can be frustrating beyond words. The good news is that we can make it through the challenging times and learn from the experience. Call me a broken record, but I’ll continue saying it… Everything happens for a reason. It’s up to you to figure out what you gain from the experience.
