Have you ever heard that saying, “show me your friends and I’ll show you who you are?” It’s one of those saying that I used to think was just a cliché, but now as I get older, I see the truth in it. I see it not only in my own life, but in the lives of others.
We all have friends that fall into different groups. We go to each of them for different reasons. We have the friends we go to when we need support, others we go to when we want to goof off and have fun. Some, we admire for the things that they are doing and are inspired by them.
If you’re lacking friends in that last category, then it’s time to evaluate your circle. I’m not saying that the friends you have aren’t good enough. What I am saying is that the quote above refers to your friends being a reflection on you. If you don’t have friends that are clear on what they want for their life and doing it, then what does that say about you?
This isn’t meant to be a negative post. The intention isn’t for you to beat yourself up about where you are right now – it’s to create awareness. If there’s something inside you that’s telling you that you want more for your life, what are you doing about it? Where are you going to find the support system to make it happen?
If you are working towards something and feel like your current circle don’t get it, or don’t support you, then it’s time to expand your circle. If you’re trying to develop new habits and a new mindset and your friends are doing things to keep you where you are right now, then it’s time to evaluate your friends.
This may sound a bit harsh, but it’s the reality. I’m now saying that you have to cut people off, but you may have to limit your exposure to the people who aren’t supporting you in taking your life to the next level. When it comes to making significant changes in our lives, we need help. We need a strong support system. If you don’t have that right now, then it’s something you need to create for yourself.
I’m grateful for the support system that I have established since starting my entrepreneurial journey. Have I lost friends along the way? Absolutely. The crazy thing is you don’t often know who will stand by you in the end. The friendships you once thought were unbreakable may be the very ones that end.
Remember that everything happens for a reason and not everyone in your life is meant to be with you for a lifetime. ♥
