Everything happens for a reason!

May 13, 2018 Sandra Dawes

I’ve been interviewing women who are interested in being guests on my upcoming podcast and I am amazed by their experiences and their willingness to share them with others. These are women who have been through some heartbreaking experiences and have survived. Not only have they survived, they have come through the other side stronger than ever.

These are exactly the types of stories I was looking for. I plan to share my own experience with encountering my dark night of the soul and feeling stronger in mind, body and soul afterwards. My purpose in sharing these stories with others it to help women going through their own dark times. The truth is that everything happens for a reason. We never know what that reason is when we’re going through it, but if we’re patient with the process and ourselves, we will realize it eventually.

It seems like a cliché. It’s something that people say to comfort someone going through challenges times. It can be just as irritating to hear as this too shall pass. It’s something no one wants to hear when they’re experiencing the darkness. You don’t want to hear that it will pass – the question is WHEN?

Experiencing dark times can be very isolating. It can feel like no one else understands what we’re going through. The truth is that we’re all going through or have gone through something that has shaken us to our core. It can break us or it can make us stronger (another cliché?). Think back to experiences you have had in the past that you thought you would never recover from, you’ll realize that you’ve overcome a multitude of things you once thought were insurmountable. You’ve done it before and you can do it again.

Everything happens for a reason. As a recovering control freak, this has been a hard lesson for me to learn! I now accept that there will always be things that are out of my control. I also realize that even our most heartbreaking experiences are opportunities for growth. They happen for us, not to us. They correct our path, they prove how strong we really are and they show us what else is possible for our lives.

If you’re going through a rough patch right now, instead of asking why me, ask yourself what is this experience teaching me?  You may not receive an answer right away, but when the time is right, it will reveal itself. ♥
