Trusting your instincts

February 19, 2018 Sandra Dawes

A couple of weeks ago I was approached by someone who was trying to run a credit card scam. From the start something didn’t seem right so I was cautious from the start. It could have been easy to fall for it because it came in the form of a potential client.

There were lots of warning signs that this person was on the up-and-up. They didn’t want to speak in person, they had no interest in making sure I was the right coach for them, yet they claimed they wanted to hire me for in-person coaching for their family. They didn’t even know where I was located and never shared where they lived.

I’m grateful that I was wary from the beginning. It meant that there was no disappointment at the “lost opportunity” because my instincts told me that this wasn’t a legitimate potential client. There was a time when I would have disregarded my intuition because I wanted it to be real. How many of us have silenced our intuition because we’ve wanted something so bad?

Whether it was a potential relationship or a business or job opportunity, we can be so desperate to have something that we push past our instincts and force things to happen that weren’t meant to be. I’m glad that I’ve learned that my instincts are rarely, if ever wrong. I think the key is identifying whether it’s your instincts kicking in or your fear talking.

When an opportunity is presented and you feel yourself hesitating, you have to check in with yourself and ask if you’re unsure because something doesn’t feel right or if it’s because you’re going to have to push yourself out of your comfort zone. You have to look at where the opportunity is coming from and do your due diligence whenever possible. This isn’t to say that we’re never going to make bad decisions or choices. Those are still experiences that provide lessons for the future. At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with avoiding disappointment and heartache whenever possible.

Our instincts are there to guide us. You just have to trust in them and take the time to tune into them whenever you’re unsure or uncertain about what you should do. You always have the answers you’re looking for, you just have to trust and believe in yourself. ♥
