Make Time for Your Mid-Year Review!

June 19, 2017 Sandra Dawes

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know I’m a big fan of reviewing goals on a regular basis. If you haven’t been checking your progress on a monthly or quarterly business, then it’s definitely time to check in as we wrap up the first half of the year. Since we’re coming to the mid-way point of the year, we should see if we’re at the half-way point in the achievement of the goals we wanted to achieve at the end of 2017. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  1. What’s working?
It’s always good to reflect on what’s working so you know what to keep doing. Don’t discount stuff because you haven’t made the progress you wanted. It can be easy to fall into the trap of beating yourself up about what’s not working and not spend time celebrating the small successes.
  2. What’s not working?
Yes, we do have to be honest about what’s not working. If there are things that aren’t working, then we should identify them and do something about it. It doesn’t make sense to continue doing things hoping that the end result will change. If you’re not getting the results you want, it’s time to try something different. It’s never too late to adjust the plan.
  3. Where do you need help?
Let’s be honest achieving our goals, especially those meaningful ones, isn’t a solo effort. Whether we hire help, ask for volunteers or ask for advice, don’t hesitate! Trying to do it all on your own is a recipe for frustration and overwhelm. This has been a hard lesson for me to learn, but I now know that asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness. Don’t be afraid to ask for help where needed!
  4. Are there habits or beliefs that are holding back from making the progress you want?
Habits can either serve you are harm you. Deep down, we all know the habits that don’t serve us, but letting go of them is usually easier said than done. Once you’re aware of the habits that are holding you back, you can make a plan to remove them from your daily routine. I’m not saying you have to go cold turkey, but try to limit the habits and thought processes that you know don’t serve you and replace them with ones that do.
  5. What commitments are you making for the second half of the year?
It’s one thing to reflect on how things have been going and another to think about what you need to do moving forward. The key with this step is to now just think about what you need to do, but to actually develop a plan that you will put into action! Try to create a plan for the next 90 days and remember to check back on a frequent basis to measure your progress. Don’t be afraid to track how things are going, you might be pleasantly surprised at how far you gotten in just 3 months!

If the first half of 2017 wasn’t as productive as you had hoped it would be, don’t worry about it! It’s not too late to create the momentum you need to make the year exactly what you want it to be. You just need to be clear about where you want to go, what you need to do to get there and be willing to put in the work. Are you ready? ♥
