5 ways to create a routine for success

May 29, 2017 Sandra Dawes

I’ve been thinking about what I’ve done in the past that has made me feel like I was operating at my optimum level in all areas of my life. When I’m at that level, I’m eating healthy, getting exercise and have enough energy to get the important stuff done. What I realized when I reflected on this, was that there were certain things that I did on a daily basis that helped me stay committed and focused.

  1. Start the day with meditation
If I start the day without at least 5 minutes of meditation, things seem off. Don’t get me wrong, meditation on its own isn’t the key to a happy day. What it does do, is allows you to start your day in a calm and contemplative way. It’s been said that if you think you don’t have time for meditation, you need it even more. No matter how crazy my life has gotten, I always make time for at least morning meditation.
  1. Set daily intentions and track my progress
Setting intentions doesn’t have to be the traditional to-do list. Taking time the night before to set out the priorities for the following day allows you to start your day with clarity. Mediation help s you deal with the surprises that may show up in your day and throw you off track 🙂
  2. Daily gratitude
Regardless of how crazy your day has been, if you take 5 minutes at the end of each day to reflect on all the things you have to be grateful for, you’ll realize life is better than you thought! This has shifted my perspective many times, and I’m in a different head-space when I dedicate time to express gratitude for life’s blessings. I am a believer in Patricia Moreno’s quote that “Gratitude is the greatest multiplier of good.”
  3. Visualize
Wayne Dyer said “You have to believe it to see it.” Napoleon Hill talks about visualization in his book Think and Grown Rich. Whether its athletes or actors or motivational speakers, so many successful people talk about the role that visualization has had in their success. If you can visualize achieving your goal and the emotions that you will experience when it becomes a reality, you’re one step closer to making it happen!
  4. Journal
Taking the time to reflect on your day is a powerful exercise. Whether it’s celebrating successes, learning from failures or expressing your emotions, it feels good to get it out on paper. It’s not for anyone’s consumption but yours, so you don’t have to censor it or even worry about your spelling! It’s all about reflecting on the day; what worked, what didn’t and the lessons we’ve learned along the way. I’ve gone back and read some old journals and it’s interesting to see what’s changed, and what hasn’t!

I’ve realized that part of the reason these habits have served me is because doing them every day requires discipline. If we want to make our goals a reality we have to commit and persist, even when we encounter obstacles and this too, requires discipline. I believe that the more disciplined we are, the easier it is to manifest our goals. Do you agree? ♥
