We’re at the end of January and you may be thinking that you didn’t start the year off the way that you had hoped. Trust me, I’ve been there. It can be disheartening to feel like you haven’t started the year the way that you wanted to. The good news is that it’s not too late to start working on your goals!
The truth is that you don’t need to wait for the start of the year, the start of the month or the start of the week to begin working on your goals. The perfect time to start is whenever you’re ready to. If you’re not ready to start, then you’ve got to ask yourself why. What’s really stopping you from taking action towards your goals?
If fear is what’s holding you back from doing what needs to be done, you’ve got to ask yourself how bad you really want your goal to become a reality. If it isn’t important enough for you to face your fears, then maybe it’s time to find another goal that is important to you. If you’re not ready to give up on your goal, then you’ve got to find a way to acknowledge your fears and decided that you’re going to take action in spite of them.
I’m reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic and she talks about taking fear along as a passenger on her way to achieving her goals. I love this concept because denying that fear exists isn’t realistic. She talks about letting her fears now that they can come along for the ride, but they will never be in control of where she’s headed. I think that’s a great way to look at our fears. Acknowledge they exist, but don’t give your power away to them!
If your issue is that you don’t where to start, then it’s time to work on a plan. You know what you want to achieve, so the first step is identifying what you need to do to get you there. Once you know what you need to do, then the next step is to develop a plan to make those things happen. What resources do you need? Do you need help? Where to you need to go or who do you need to talk to? Once you get clear on those things, you can then start to do the work to make your goals happen.
Don’t beat yourself up about the progress you haven’t made. Give yourself credit for being honest about where you are with your goals. Commit to taking action. Ask for help when and where you need it. Know that you are worthy of the goals you want and believe that it’s possible for them to become a reality. Remember that it’s never too late to start and there’s never going to be a perfect time to start, so stop waiting and get started! ♥
