The Miracle Morning

October 30, 2016 Sandra Dawes

I recently joined a book club and the first book that was chosen for the group to read is Hal Elrod’s The Miracle Morning. I don’t know if you’ve ever had the experience of a book coming into your life at the right time, but it happened to me with this book. It has reminded me of the core practices that helped me to take control of my life and achieve things that I never imagined possible.

It’s interesting how we sometimes dismiss or disregard the habits and practices that serve us. It’s easy to revert back to old ways of doing things when hit with the stresses of life, when it’s at those very times that we need these forgotten practices the most! The Miracle Morning reinforced something that I’d been thinking about for the last few months – it’s time to reconnect with some positive habits I’ve stopped making time for.

In his book, Hal Elrod talks about the importance of starting your day off on a positive note. Saying affirmations, taking time to read a personal development book, meditation and exercise are all part of his miracle morning practice. He also talks about setting our intentions from the night before, and how this helps us start the day with focus. Of course, this is an oversimplified summary of the book, but I am forever grateful for the reminder that we always need to start the way we want to finish!

I know from personal experience and the work that I do with clients that mindset is a HUGE part of our success in achieving our goals. If we can find a way to ensure that we start each day with a clear idea of what we want to achieve and take the time to centre ourselves and make sure that we have the energy to give our all to the day, there’s nothing that is impossible!

All of the practices that are mentioned in this book are part of a lifestyle. They aren’t things that you can do for a week or a month and then take time off. It’s about giving yourself, in mind, body and soul, what you need to fuel your goals and keep you motivated no matter what challenges or obstacles you encounter.

I feel like The Miracle Morning was created on the foundation of one of the habits outlined in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – begin with the end in mind. Starting your day with the practices of the miracle morning set a positive tone for the rest of your day. The good news is that whether you have 60 minutes or 6 to dedicate to these practices, you’re going to see the benefits!

How will you start tomorrow morning? ♥
