Choose love!

September 11, 2016 Sandra Dawes

I haven’t revisited A Course in Miracles in a while, but I was reminded of its key lesson in a video I was watching on the weekend: our thoughts and actions come from love or fear. I don’t know how many times or in how many ways this concept is mentioned in the book, but it’s there – a lot! It made me think of my own actions and what emotion is leading them – love or fear.

While I would love to say that everything I do is inspired by love, I know that this isn’t the case. There are times when fear still has a hold on me. Whether it’s a lack of ability to make a decision, procrastinating on taking action on things I know will get me closer to my goals, or thoughts of anger and resentment; I know that fear is at the root. Fear of making the wrong choice, fear of failure or fear of rejection – none of these things have brought me closer to the life I want. I’m learning that fear is a thief of joy.

Darkness and light cannot hold the same space at the same time nor can love and fear. It’s hard to imagine that we would ever choose fear over love, yet we do it all the time. The unfortunate thing is that many of us seem to have developed a habit of allowing fear to guide our thoughts and actions. To choose love rather than fear takes practice. It takes honesty and self-awareness.

I believe that choosing love instead of fear can only lead to good things. I don’t think that choosing love is always easy. I know from my own experiences that there are times when choosing love takes conscious effort, when letting fear take over seems like the easier thing to do. I also know from personal experience that when we choose fear, things never work out the way we want them to, even if felt like the right choice at the time.

So how do we choose love? Like I mentioned previously, it think it starts with honesty. The next time you’re struggling with making a decision, make a list of your options and then look at which ones are coming from a place of fear and those that are coming from a place of love. It’s possible that choosing love may not be the popular choice, or the choice that others want you to make, but it will be the one that gives you peace of mind and allows you to be open for more of what you want to come into your life! ♥
