We’re only a few days away from the end of 2015 and the start of a new year. A New Year always brings with it the promise of a fresh start, a new beginning. Whether you make New Year’s resolutions, set intentions or make promises to do things differently in 2016, how are you going to make sure these things happen?
How many of us start of the New Year excited about the possibilities and then find ourselves back in our old routine before the end of February? Sometimes we establish goals that we think we should achieve, but don’t really hold any significance for us. If our goals don’t excite us, if achieving them isn’t going to impact our lives in meaningful ways, we lose steam.
Think about what you really want to achieve in 2016. Ask yourself what would need to happen in the next 12 months to make the year a success? When you know where you want to be in a year, you can start thinking about what you need to do to get you there. When achieving the goal will bring significant change or impact your life in a meaningful way, it is easier to commit to the goal, regardless of what happens.
Understanding your motivation for pursuing your goals is important. We hear so much about “knowing your why” and there is a reason for this. When you understand your motivation, keeping it in mind on a daily basis, helps us to take consistent action towards our goals. Consistently taking action is the only way to make substantial gains. If you only take action when you feel like it, or when it’s easy you won’t make the progress you’re likely looking for. You don’t have to get it all done in a day, just think about 1 or 2 things you can do each day to bring you closer to your goals.
Big goals, the ones that really matter, don’t happen overnight. Be persistent; don’t let the obstacles discourage you from pursuing your dreams. 2016 can be the best year you’ve ever experienced, but it isn’t going to happen magically. You have to be willing to commit to your goals, and ready to take decisive action on a daily basis if you want to celebrate big accomplishments. Don’t let challenges and obstacles diminish your focus. Recognize them as a sign to look for alternate routes to get you to the achievement of your goals.
Wishing you a healthy, happy, abundant and prosperous New Year! ♥
