Do we need to be inspired to get things done?

August 10, 2015 Sandra Dawes

We all have goals that we are working towards. Some days, it’s easier to jump out of bed and hit the road running e2d333797f83c3585b293d65b492c02dthan others. On the days when we’re feeling less than motivated, much less inspired, how do we get going? Sure, it’s okay to have one off day. On the days when we’re feeling less than motivated, much less inspired, how do we get going? Sure, it’s okay to have one off day, but how do we make sure that it doesn’t become a season of procrastination?

I find that if the goal isn’t meaningful to me, it will remain undone. This used to happen when I would take on goals other people thought I should have, rather than pursue goals of my own. The outcome of achieving your goal must be significant to you or pursuing it will remain a chore. If the day to day activities to bring you closer to your goals aren’t things you’re excited about, then the end goal better be pretty rewarding!

We are often challenged to stay on track with our goals because the reason why we are pursuing them isn’t clear in our minds. This is why we hear so much about knowing your why these days. Yes it has become a bit of a cliché, but it is important to know why you do the things you do. Are you doing them out of simple obligation, or is there a bigger purpose behind them? When we do things out of obligation, we don’t always do them with the same passion that we do things that we really care about. When was the last time you took out the garbage with a sense of pride and accomplishment?

Your purpose for pursuing your goal should inspire you. It’s what pushes you to do things that are outside of your comfort zone. It’s what motivates you to push through the challenges and obligations that we all face in the pursuit of meaningful goals. This is the whole reason for doing exercises like creating a vision board. It’s a tool that can serve as a reminder as to why you’re working on the things you do on a daily basis. There might be menial, tedious tasks that we need to complete, but when we know that these steps will take us closer to realizing our goals, it makes it easier to do what we have to do.

If you’re not sure what inspires you, think about what’s most important to you. What are you working towards? What is the ultimate vision for your life? What does achieving your goals mean for you and those you care about? In the answers to these questions, you will find your inspiration. If you’re still not sure, you can always contact me for a complimentary discovery session. It doesn’t matter how you find your inspiration, it only matters that you do! ♥
