Putting the plan into action

December 29, 2014 Sandra Dawes

This is the fifth and final post in the 5 Keys to Making Your Goals a Reality blog series. I figured it would be Put-Your-Plan-Into-Actionworthwhile to recap the first four keys:

  1. Clarity on your goals
  2. Silencing the peanut gallery
  3. Having faith
  4. Creating a plan

The fifth key is all about putting the plan into action. This can be the scariest part of the journey to achieving your goals! It means that we stop talking about what we’re going to do (or looking for excuses why we can’t or shouldn’t) and just do it. I know from personal experience that this is where fear can really start to creep in. We start to worry about all the things that could go wrong, or what people think of us will should we fail.

We have to find a way to do as Susan Jeffers talk about in her book and Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway! Fear is a paralyzing force. If we allow it to, it can keep us stuck in situations that no longer serve us because we don’t want change. The truth of the matter is that we will continue to get the same results if we always do things the same way. If you’ve had lots of goals in the past that you’ve never taken to this action stage, then maybe the New Year is the time to try doing things differently!

Taking action on your goals is the only way that they’re ever going to become a reality. Sitting at home watching TV isn’t going to magically melt the weight off. Working on a resume that you don’t actually send out to potential employers isn’t going to get you the job. Whatever it is you want, you need to take action to get it.

Taking action on your goals is the most important of the 5 keys. You can do all the planning and mindset work that you want, but if you aren’t willing and able to put the plan into action, then it was all for nothing. If you need encouragement, find an accountability partner, hire a coach, whatever is going to help you stay on track and keep you motivated.

Don’t get stuck in the trap of waiting for the perfect moment or the right star alignment. If you want to make your goals a reality, the best time to start working on that is now. I’m looking forward to a phenomenal New Year and I wish the same for you and yours as well. ♥
