The Answer is Within

Have you ever had your inner knowing tell you that you should do something and you ignore it?  Has that ever worked well for you?  I know Trust-yourself-you-know-more__quotes-by-Benjamin-Spock-97-e1403720780321-680x387from my own personal experience that there have been times when I’ve know what I ought to do, but for whatever reason (comfort, fear), I didn’t take action.  Whenever this has happened, I am usually forced to do what I knew I should do, just not on my own terms.

This can be frustrating when it happens.  You don’t want to admit it, but you’re the one to blame for now being in a position where you have to do what you knew days/months/years ago you should have done.  What makes it worse is that it would have been much easier to deal with the issue when you inner guidance gave you the heads up.  Now, you’re in reactive mode, cleaning up messes, and trying to keep it together.  Why do we do this to ourselves?

I think part of the answer lies in the fact that we’re taught to make logical choices.  Don’t make decisions based on emotion.  I agree that you’re not in the best frame of mind to make decisions when you’re angry or depressed, but what’s wrong with trusting our instincts, our intuition?  Some might make the argument that we have created this reality that we don’t want because it has entered our consciousness and we’re now giving our energy to an outcome that we don’t desire.

I’m not saying I have all the answers.  What I do know is that the next time my intuition guides me in a certain direction I’m going to pay more attention.  What is it that stops me from acting on my intuitive guidance?  If I’m being honest, it’s still that fear of the unknown.  I haven’t always been consistent in listening to my intuition or trusting my instincts.  I still question them.  This is what makes it challenging to take inspired action.  How can you follow your heart if you can’t trust that it’s leading you in the right direction?

When I’m feeling uncertain, I know it’s because my spiritual connection is weak.  When I’m maintaining a regular habit of prayer and meditation, I question things less and take more decisive action.  When the routine falls off, so do I.  Just like we have to maintain a regular exercise routine and eat healthy in order to take care of our bodies, we must have a regular routine that keeps our minds and souls in a healthy state as well.

You might think that you don’t have time for a meditation practice, or that you’ve never been good at it.  You don’t have to have the skill of a Buddhist Monk in order to benefit from meditation.  You just have to spend a few moments in silence and be open to receive guidance.  I never thought that I would be able to sit still for even 5 minutes, but the more I practiced, the better I got.  If you want to try meditation and don’t know where to get started, try a guided mediation to start.  Even a walk in nature can be a meditation.  I know I’ve had moments of clarity while walking the dog 🙂

Whatever you do to tap into your inner knowing, do it on a regular basis.  If you’re unsure of the guidance that comes, ask yourself why.  Don’t let your fears allow you to paralyze you.  You’ve got too much to accomplish to spend your time and energy cleaning up messes that could have been avoided or cleaned up ages ago.  Trust your instincts, trust your intuition, and most importantly trust yourself!
