There’s still time to make this your best year yet!

July 30, 2014 Sandra Dawes

If you didn’t make as much progress with your goals for the year thus far, you might be feeling like 2014 is a wash.  Many LWTL-14-inspirational-quotesof us start the year promising that things are going to be different this time.  We going to stay committed to managing our time better, being kinder to others and being good to ourselves as well.  The reality is, old habits are hard to break, and sometimes we need help in making changes that will actually stick.  The good news is that it isn’t too late to make your goals a reality.  You still have 5 months to knock 2014 out of the park, making it your best year yet!

The key to achieving your goals is the ability to have laser-like focus on what it is you want to achieve.  This means having 1 or 2 goals that you are going to dedicate your time, energy and resources to making happen.  Too many goals lead to overwhelm.  When you feel overwhelmed, frustration kicks in, and it can be easy to just throw in the towel and tell yourself that it just wasn’t meant to be.

The reality is that no matter how much you may feel like a super hero sometimes, you can’t do it all.  I have run workshops around setting priorities, and one of the things I ask participants to do is consider what their “golden egg” is.  Your golden egg is the goal, or priority, that will make it a lot easier to do the other things that are important to you.  If you want to feel like you really accomplished something this year, focus on that one thing that’s going to really make a difference in your life or your business.

It doesn’t matter if it’s getting in shape and eating healthier so that you have more energy for the activities you want to do, or generating more revenue in your business so that you can reduce your hours or take an extended vacation with the family.  It’s about figuring out what’s important to you, and what you need to achieve in order to spend more time doing those things.  Once you are clear on what those 1 or 2 goals are, it’s about dedicating time every day towards the achievement of that goal.

When I wrote my book last year, it took 6 weeks to complete the first draft.  I had done a 50 day writers challenge back in 2010 and only got 130 pages or so completed (and definitely not an entire book!).  The difference this time around was that I woke up every day with the intention of completing a minimum of 4 pages.  Some days it happened, other times it didn’t.  The point was, I wasn’t getting up wondering what I was going to do today.  I got up, walked the dog, meditated, did some yoga, took a shower and got to writing.  You have to make the pursuit of your goals a part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth (I did that too, by the way, even though it’s omitted from the list above! 😉 )

It’s never too late in the year, or in your life to make your goals a reality.  All it takes is focus, determination and commitment.  If you’d like learn more about how you can still make 2014 an amazing year, check out my GPS to Goal Achievement workshop starting Wednesday August 13.  For details on the program, visit www.embraceurdestiny.com/events-2.
