So we’ve just passed the mid-way point of the first month into the New Year. How is the progress on the goals you set for yourself going? You might have committed to a new exercise regime, growing your business or eating healthier, but are you doing it? It’s so easy to fall back into old habits and ways of doing things, isn’t it? We might not feel like getting up to work out, making those cold calls, or cooking dinner instead of ordering pizza, but we made a commitment, didn’t we? If we can’t keep our commitments to ourselves, making commitments to others or expecting them to keep their commitments to you isn’t going to work, is it?
If you’ve never watched Bishop T.D. Jake’s video series on commitment, I highly recommend that you check it out here. At one point in the video he says that commitment isn’t a feeling, it’s a commitment! Okay, he doesn’t just say it, he pretty much screams it – but that’s probably because it’s something that we all need to hear. We all want so many great things for our lives: good health, quality time with loved ones, and financial prosperity. The question is – what are we willing to do, what are we willing to let go of, in order to obtain and maintain all that we want for our lives?
Often, we’re more committed to our excuses and arguing for our limitations than we are to our dreams. We want to do better, but it’s just so hard! There isn’t enough time, money or luck to make our goals a reality, so we might as well just keep doing what we’ve always done. If continuing to live your life the way you always have isn’t one of your goals for 2014, what are you committing to do to make this year different? What are you willing to do no matter what, whether you feel like it or not? This isn’t about creating resolutions, it’s about making a decision to change the way you live your life. We all have things we know we need to do if we want to make improvements in our lives. It’s now just for us to believe that it is possible and know that this is part of the journey we call life.
