Celebrating Our Accomplishments

MP900309664As we head into the last few weeks of 2013, I’ve got 2 “must-do’s” that I need to attend to before the start of the New Year.  The first is to fine tune my plan for 2014, especially the first 90 days.  The second is to sit down and review all that I have accomplished this year.

Often, when we get to the end of the year, we lament about all of the things we didn’t accomplish.  Those uncompleted goals often get passed on into the New Year as resolutions, carrying that energy of “incompleteness” with it.  When we stay focused on all of the things we didn’t do, how do we stay focused and motivated to make those things happen in the New Year?  “If they didn’t happen for me this year, what are the chances it’s going to happen in the next one?”  We always say this year’s going to be different, but if we don’t change our approach, how do we ensure that it will be?

That’s why on New Year’s Eve, before the start of any festivities, I take some time to celebrate my successes for the year.  Okay, may at the start of the festivities, because I may be accompanied by a glass of Merlot as part of the celebration 🙂  The first time I did this, I was surprised by all that I had accomplished for the year.  Sure, I may not have achieved everything I wanted to, but I had accomplished something.

Big or small, we often minimize our own successes simply because they’re ours.  We need to take the time to celebrate all that we have achieved for the year.  Embrace the successes rather than focusing on the “failures”.  Take that feeling of accomplishment and review your goals for 2014.  Believe that those goals are just as achievable as the ones you were able to do this year.  You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes as you create the momentum to really rock your year!
