The Power of Positive Thinking

May 20, 2010 Sandra Dawes

I saw the following quote on Facebook the other day and immediately had to write it down:

Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive because your words become your behaviours.
Keep your behaviours positive because your behaviours become your habits.
Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny. ~ Gandhi

I think this quote sums up perfectly why I continue to do the work I have on improving myself and my outlook towards life.  It still amazes me how easy it is to fall into patterns of negative thinking, and then we wonder why “bad” things happen to us…  I have been there, feeling sorry for myself, wondering “why me?” Now that I understand that everything happens for a reason, I can look back at some of the “negative” events in my life and appreciate that they happened in order for me to grow and become emotionally stronger.

I have worked on being more conscious of my thoughts, and I have become more conscious of the words that I speak and the way I behave.  I have established positive habits such as daily meditation, a regular yoga practice, affirmations and visualizations.  My life and my outlook have improved significantly and I don’t think that this is a coincidence…

As I continue to look for the good in everything and keep my focus on that which inspires me rather than that which saddens or angers me, it is amazing the abundance of good that has come into my life!  I’ve learned that keeping a positive frame of mind doesn’t mean that you won’t experience disappointments in life, it just means that you are able to control your emotions and outlook when those “negative” events occur in your life.  We can’t control the events or people in our lives, but we always have control over the way we react. ♥
