Pamper Yourself!

March 10, 2010 Sandra Dawes

If you’re like me, you are so busy that taking care of yourself isn’t always at the top of your to-do list.  There have been times when I’m so busy at work, I barely remember to make time to eat!  While you may justify your workaholic tendencies on the fact that others are relying on you to get the job done, it really is a poor excuse…

The fact of the matter is, if you don’t take care of yourself and treat yourself well, you won’t last long enough to do all the things you think others need you to do!  How many times have you run yourself ragged, making yourself sick because you don’t listen to your body when it tells you that you need to rest?  I know I’ve been guilty of this and have paid the price when the body forces you to take the rest you need for your own well-being.

The reality is that the world will continue to turn without your assistance.  It’s okay to take a break when you need it – someone else will pick up the slack or the work will be there when you’re energized and ready to get back to it.  We often put so much unnecessary pressure on ourselves thinking that if we don’t do the job, it won’t get done, but is that really the case?

I have made a promise to myself to take at least one day a week for myself.  A day to regroup and recharge.  If I feel like doing absolutely nothing, then I’m doing nothing and I’m not going to feel guilty about it!  I went through an entire year last year without taking more than a long weekend as a break – I have promised myself that I will never do that again!  I have released the notion that I am irreplaceable and know that the office will be okay if I take a week off.  It took a lot of work to get to the point where I don’t feel bad about being selfish and looking out for me.  If I don’t love myself enough to take care of me, who will?

Join me in promising to take a “me” day whenever you need it! ♥
